This newly created Press Manager is an important role within the News Desk team to promote and protect the reputation of the company’s brand and its products and services, through expert and timely media handling and by supporting the delivery of proactive media relations campaigns. The role will work as the first point of contact for day to day media enquiries, handling issues across various sectors, shaping news stories and influencing the content of media coverage.

Key responsibilities for this London based Press Manager role:
Day to day managing of reactive media enquiries
Generating press materials for planned announcements and breaking news stories
Identifying opportunities to generate news stories to tell the brand’s story to both national and regional media, including social media channels
Developing and managing crisis media relations plans
Provide advice and counsel on media issues with the support from senior management team
Building strong relationships with key internal stakeholders and a strong understanding of their business areas
Building and maintaining effective relationships with national and regional journalists, including online editors and bloggers.
Drafting press releases and briefing documents
Participating in out of hours Press Office cover
Skills, experience and competencies for this London based Press Manager role:
Solid experience working in PR or managing a busy press office
Ability to tell a compelling story and act as a confident and persuasive spokesperson
A proven track record in media relations
Passionate about current affairs and good knowledge of UK news agenda
Ability to work under pressure to short deadlines and to grasp varied and complex business issues quickly
Resilience and ability to stay calm under pressure
Flexible with a can do attitude and hands on approach
Retail and FS sector experience would be an advantage
Outstanding and accurate writing skills
Experience and evidence of using social media as part of your media handling plans
